Walks around Tur Langton
There are a number of footpaths leading from the village in all directions. These are just a few to whet your appetite and get you exploring.
Walk 1 - Langton Caudle
This walk takes you around the Langtons and over the Langton Caudle. It takes around 2.5 hours to complete, or longer if you enjoy a little liquid refreshment en-route.
Start from the village, cross the B6047 and walk up the lane past the old pub. At the top of the lane, follow the waymarkers towards Stonton Wyville. When you reach Stonton, turn left along the road, cross the Cranoe Road and follow the path up the Caudle. At the triangulation point, bear right and walk down the hill towards Thorpe Langton, then through the churchyard and follow the path to East Langton.
Liquid refreshment is available at The Bell. When ready, set off around the cricket ground, over the stile and follow the path to the road. Cross the road towards Church Langton and then over the stile on the left and across the field to the Langton Arms car park, another opportunity for refreshment.
Cross the B6047 and follow the path through the farm gate, and then follow the waymarkers around the wood and back to Tur Langton, where you can recharge in The Crown!
Walk 2 - The Mere
This is a short walk, taking you along the Mere, with views towards Shangton and back to the village. This walk takes about an hour walking leisurely.
Set off from the village, up the lane beside Langton House and over the stile. Follow the waymarkers across the field past the barns and continue straight ahead across the field. The path leading to the left is the return path. Cross the stile and follow the hedgerow to the bridge and stile into the next field. Cross this field to the stile on the left, and then follow the path through the field up to The Mere.
Turn left along The Mere, making sure to pause and enjoy the views back to the village on your left, and down to Shangton church on your right. Continue until you reach the waymarker to return to the village. Follow the hedgerow along the edge of the field to the footbridge at the bottom left corner, and then turn left back toward the barns. Cross the stile and walk through the field to the top of the lane and back into the village.
Walk 3 - The Roman Road
This walk will take you along the Roman Road to Glooston and back through Stonton Wyville
Set off from the village, up the lane beside Langton House and over the stile. Follow the waymarkers across the field past the barns and continue straight ahead across the field. Cross the stile and follow the hedgerow to the bridge and stile into the next field. Cross this field to the stile on the left, and then follow the path through the field up to The Mere.
Turn right along The Mere towards the B6047 but before reaching it, turn left along the road to Shangton. When you reach Shangton, cross the road and follow the waymarkers north toward the Roman Road. Turn right towards the B6047 and cross onto the unpaved Roman Road. Follow this road to Glooston.
Refreshments can be had at The Old Barn in Glooston. Then follow the path back towards Stonton Wyville, through Stonton and then back towards Tur Langton. When you reach the outskirts of the village, walk down the lane, past the old pub and back into the village. Take the opportunity to relive the walk over a pint at The Crown.
